We were seated at a beautiful table and the dining area at POSTRIO was spectacular to say the least. After we ordered our drinks, the VIP service began. Mini Kobe beef burgers were brought out to the kids while amazing side by side plates were brought to the adults. Billy and I had proscuitto with arugala and goat cheese accompanied by a huge diver scallop with a wonderful presentation of exotic mushrooms, arugla and an amazing sauce.
I was so excited to see Wolfgang Puck's Hungarian Goulash on the menu. I've had this dish several times prepared all day by Diane Barner. (she uses Puck's recipe) It was incredible!!! The spaetzle was crispy and almost deep fried with creme fraiche trickled all over the goulash. Meanwhile, we had a parade of about 7 waiters deliver dishes to our table announcing the arrival and ingredients of each dish. We noticed that our table was the only one receiving the parade! John sent out a quail appetizer after the previous prosciutto and diver scallop plates. Tyler had ordered 2 small things and his plate arrived with 2 additional plates! Plus John's version of mac and cheese that left us speechless. John sent out a spectacular lamb dish for Billy. Caitlyn had more mini-Kobe beef burgers while Sarah had asked for John to create a special dish just for her! Pretty bold little girl isn't she?! John sent out braised short ribs over mashed potatoes for Sarah as well as 2 additional plates for the rest of us to share.
Feeling full yet????!!! Just when we thought we were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, our waitress brought out this incredible dessert plate with an additional plate of cookies for the kids PLUS a small plate of chocolates. It was UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!
We're quite sure this was a once in a lifetime VIP experience and we cannot thank Uncle Rob enough for allowing us the honor of finally meeting John after hearing about him for the past 18 years. We loved talking to John. He spent quite a bit of his time at our table and we certainly noticed the other patrons staring at us. I just had to ask John about his cooking buddies like Mario Batali. He said he just met Bobby Flay. I was on cloud nine! We were blown away by the service, the food, and especially how much the staff all seemed to truly value having a boss like John to work for. As we were thanking all of them, they were saying how it was their pleasure and how much they admired John and enjoyed working for him. Our waitress commented on John's sense of humor and how he had a come-back for everything to which the kids said, "just like Uncle Rob!"
What a night we had. One we will not soon forget. Thank you John LaGrone.
