So we got out of Checotah without a raft. They got over 10 inches of rain! Massive flooding. We hit the road under blue skies and sunshine. A welcome change from yesterday. As a result, I drove most of the day. However, I was not driving when a sweet guy pulled next to us on the highway and yelled to us that we had a flat tire. We hobbled into a truck stop where it took Billy an hour to get the spare on. We then drove across the highway to another truck stop with a huge tire shop. They took about 5 seconds to pop the spare off and put a brand new tire on! Even with the delay, we still made it to New Mexico before dark. When the speed limit signs changed to 75 miles an hour, all I could think about was how much fun Michelle would have flying down the road...legally!
We did see Cadillac Ranch from the road. It was on the opposite side of the highway so we were not able to pull over and go spray paint but just seeing it was cool enough. Also came across our 1st tumbleweeds.
The temps stayed in the low 70's most of the day. By the time we pulled into the KOA in Tucumcari, NM, the kids were ready to bail out and headed straight for the very cool playground and shuffleboard. We had dinner tonight at a great place in town on old Route 66 with some of the best green chile I have ever had. Billy had pork carnitas with the red chile and was wiping his forehead through the entire meal! Excellent dinner. Kids are now playing their XBox for the 1st time in the trailer. They are so cute. All 3 in their respective bunks with pillows under their heads and having a blast with their entertainment set-up in the bunk house.
We crossed over into mountain time and the kids keep asking what time it is in Maryland. Tomorrow we will get to Flagstaff, Arizona. Our dear friends, Gene Kelly and Diane will drive up Friday night from Phoenix to spend the weekend with us. We'll head to the Grand Canyon on Saturday. Also, Uncle Rob will come up to see us and the kids are so excited. Since we are getting to Flagstaff a day ahead of schedule, we will get to sleep in as long as we want on Friday morning. We may never get up!

Glad to hear you are making such great time and you can relax on your birthday!!!! Have a great one, we'll celebrate when you get here. Your MS girlfriends can't wait and yes it is pretty incredible what good friends can come out of this crummy disease. Drive careful, love the videos and pics. What happened to Billy's hand?
