The Mighty Mississippi

We saw Uncle Jimmy this morning in Franklin, TN. It was a really nice visit and he was so happy to see us and meet his late brother's grandchildren for the very first time. It was a bit emotional as at age 88 he now looks exactly like my grandfather who passed away in 1989.

After trying to guess who lived in what mansion in Franklin, we headed down the Natchez Trace Parkway into Alabama and Mississippi. We had some laughs today like when we were sitting at a gas station and a school bus pulled up nose to nose within about an inch of our front bumper and expected she was going to get in to get gas because we were going to back up our 33 feet of Taj Mahal to suit her. Boy was she surprised when Billy asked her politely to get the heck out of our way! We had a full tank of gas and she apparantly did not so we were willing and able to have an all day stand-off. Thankfully she came to her senses and backed up into the road so we could exit.

Then there was the bathroom incident with Sarah on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere Tennessee. Caitlyn and Tyler thought it was hysterical that Sarah had to go number two in the woods with mommy shielding her bare bottom from passers-by! Always exciting times traveling with the Dodge's!

So we got throught Memphis rush hour traffic and crossed into our 7th state, Arkansas. We are at a Good Sam campground literally right on the bank of the mighty Mississippi river. It is spectacular. The camp is appropriately named Tom Sawyer's. We were able to grill steaks and enjoy salad and homemade potato chips for dinner. So nice.

Kids are getting ready for bed and I'm sipping the last of my Merlot while thinking of all of you who are reading this. Thanks Aunt Connie for the text about St. Patrick's day. We never would have known! Thanks for the phone call Tina. Tell the girls we miss them very much. I'm sure its hard going back to school and Tyler not being there. Rick, if you are reading this, it was great to hear your voice and we're holding you to that Whidbey Island R&R. Lyn, sorry to hear about the Solu-Medrol. I know, it stinks bad but glad to hear your voice and know you are doing better. Looking forward to lunch in the city at least once a month with my MS girlfriends. Who knew a stinky disease would bring such amazing friends!

We're off towards Little Rock in the morning and hope to make it to Oklahoma City tomorrow. We are making really good time as a result of getting up at the crack of dawn. We're all pretty tired though so we may have to slow down in the next few days!

love to all.
