WOW! Today we drove 821 miles over 13 hours and 13 minutes. Starting in Chicago this morning, we thanked Sharon (Ray had already left for work), said good-bye, and drove through Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and about ½ way through South Dakota. It was not all drive and no fun however, as we stopped at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota! It is a large building (an auditorium I believe) that is totally covered in corn cobs. Each year they do a different theme, and this year it is “Everyday Heroes” with corn murals of soldiers, firemen, teachers, police officers, doctors, and others. Quite unique.
The drive was beautiful through rolling farm land and plains, the weather was great, and we were treated to a blazing red sunset.
We pulled into Murdo, South Dakota just after 9:00 pm and had dinner at the Buffalo Restaurant and Bar (steak of course).

Bill & Butch: Enjoyed reading about your second 'leg' of the trip. I am able to print out the Blogs and photos and bring them to mom to read. She is improving more each day. yesterday (Monday), she was able to walk the entire length of the hall from the rehab room back to her room without stopping and also by putting one foot in front of the other....an improvement over just suffeling forward. Also, the facility is replacing the wardrobe closet in her room with a new one. Must be because the State was inspecting the facility last week.
